Beginning Jan. 23, Kentuckians can show their willingness to be an organ donor on their driver’s license. When their license is renewed, Kentuckians will have the option of having a small, blue heart with the word “Organ Donor” printed on it.
Each day 18 patients die waiting for a life-saving organ transplant. Every 10 minutes a new name is added to the waiting list. Only 35 percent of Kentuckians are registered organ donors.
Those wishing to add the blue heart to their license prior to their driver’s license renewal can purchase a duplicate license at the Circuit Clerk’s office for $12.
