Otis Cornett dies




Otis Cornett, 93, died March 25 at his home at Gordon.

Born in Gordon to the late Clark and Nancy Ann Miniard Cornett, he was the father of the late Ella Mae Cornett and a brother of the late Iddie Cornett, Mary Jane Lewis and Doshua Lewis.

He was a member of the Southern Labor Union and had worked for Blue Diamond Coal Company, Ritter Lumber Company and Hurricane Gap Rock Quarry.

Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Emily Jean Shell Cornett; three sons, Justice Cornett and wife Ann of Maryville, Tenn., and Glenn W. Cornett and wife Delores, and Allen Cornett and wife Trish, all of Gordon; two daughters, Sharon Kay Cornett Ison and husband Jack, and Margaret Sue Cornett Middleton and husband Dale, all of Gordon; a brother, Alfred Cornett; a sister, Myrtle Lewis; friends, Kathy Carol Boyd, Diane Cornett and Angel Cornett and husband Red; nine grandchildren, Adam Eugene, Sarah Weaver, Micaela Cornett, April Joy Smith, David Allen Cornett, Misty Nicole Cooke, Susan Michelle Ison Farmer, Kevin Ison, and Jessica Renee Middleton Thornsberry; and great-grandchildren, Allyson June Smith, Abby Sherman, Christopher Cornett, Katlin Kaylee and T.J. Cooke, Autumn Faith Farmer and Emily Leigh Thornsberry.

Funeral services were held on March 29 at Gordon. Burial was in the East Haven Memorial Cemetery at Gordon.
