Dakota Fields (right) displays the trophy he won last month for being Letcher County’s top speller. The Cowan Elementary School student didn’t stop there. The county spelling title qualified him to enter the Ford Motor Company Kentucky Spelling Bee in Louisville, which Fields finished seventh of the 64 students competing in the annual statewide event. Dakota is the son of Frank and Lisa Fields of Big Cowan. He is pictured with his spelling instructor, Michael Caudill of Carcassonne.
