Park vandals wanted

Police are looking for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever vandalized a community park at Thornton last week.

Letcher County Ranger Sean Blair said someone drove a vehicle through the gate of the park and knocked over a port-a-potty on Feb. 17.

“It’s a shame that a pure thug would do something like that,” said Blair. “This was an intentional act of vandalism. I want to catch whoever destroyed this park and make an example of them.”

Blair said the vandal should pay for the damage and do community service to keep the park clean.

He said community members have been cooperative and want the vandal arrested.

“The people in that area think so much of that park and really take care of it,” Blair said of the Tom and Pat Gish Park. “It’s such a beautiful park. It’s a safe place. You can walk. Let your children play and have reunions and birthday parties there.”

Blair said some community mem- bers want to off er a cash reward if it will help catch the vandals.

Anyone with information can call Blair at 821-7081 or Letcher County Ranger Philip Slone at 821-7082.

“If you vandalize a park, we will catch you,” said Blair.
