Pattie Sowders, 71, buried at Middlesboro


Pattie Sue Sowders, 71, of Middlesboro, died December 15 in Cumberland after a long illness.

Born in Middlesboro, she was a daughter of the late Howard and Edith Ayers Sowders. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers and sisters William Jake Sowders, Meschal Edds, John Sowders, Betty Sowders, Joyce Nicely, Lucy Spangler and Mary Neverstitch, and a niece, Denise Neverstitch.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Middlesboro.

Ms. Sowders received a Bachelor of Science degree in education from Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, Tenn., a Master’s Degree from Union College in Barbourville, and Rank I from East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tenn. She was a retired elementary schoolteacher at Clairfield, Tenn

Surviving are two brothers, Tim Sowders and wife Lois, Harrogate, Tenn., and Bob Sowders and wife Edith, Middlesboro; a sister, Martha Mayerchak, Cumberland; a sister-in-law, Alta Sowders, Springfield, Va.; a brother-in-law, Wade Nicely, Baneberry, Tenn.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were held December 19 at the Hensley Cemetery in Middlesboro.

Everidge Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
