Paul Cornett dies in Indiana

Paul Clay Cornett, 72, passed away at 8:50 a.m. on Tuesday, May 20, at his home at North Vernon, Ind.

Mr. Cornett was born on July 16, 1941 in Hotspot, a son of Clifton and Drinda Caudill Cornett. He married Betty Boddy on Nov. 4, 1961 in Glennie, Michigan; she survives him.

Mr. Cornett was an electrician for Reliance Electric in Columbus, Indiana, retiring in 2002 after 40 years. He was a member of Old Regular Baptist Church in Milan, Ind.; a former member of Big Creek Old Regular Baptist Church in Dupont and Old Regular Baptist Church in Otisco, Ind. He enjoyed gardening, reading the Bible and spending time with his grandchildren.

Surviving with his wife of 52 years, Betty Cornett of North Vernon, Ind., are one son, Darlis Cornett and wife Julie of North Vernon, Ind.; three daughters, Cindy Barnes and husband Raleigh of Scipio, Ind., Rhonda Joy and husband Bob of Columbus, Ind., and Lori Nicodemus and husband Mark of Walton; four brothers, David Cornett and wife Sue of Jenkins, Ralph Cornett and wife Mary of Westport, Ind., Richard Cornett and wife Janie of Crothersville, Ind., and Kenis Cornett and wife Eileen of North Vernon, Ind.; three sisters, Susie Williams and husband Larry of Seymour, Ind., Maxine Sexton and Martha Coate and husband Jim, all of UZ; eleven grandchildren, Clinton Vogel, Chelsea Vogel, Connor Vogel, Carson Vogel and Matthew Cornett, all of North Vernon, Indiana, Travis Green and wife Cheryl, John Stepper, Marcus Stepper, Amber Neff and husband Paul, and Megan Buchanan and husband Chase, all of Columbus, Ind., and Crystal Golden and husband Josh of Imlay, Mich.; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Stanley, Eugene and Phillip Cornett and two sisters, Sophia Hogg and Chelsea Daugherty.

Funeral services were held at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and cremation services in North Vernon, Ind., with the Brother Jim Fields officiating. Burial was in the Hayden Cemetery in Hayden, Ind.
