ANNUAL RABBIT HUNT – At least sixty-four children, both boys and girls, braved the cold winter earlier this winter to hunt rabbits throughout Letcher and Knott counties. The annual Rabbit Hunt for Kids was sponsored by he Little Shepherd Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation and local wildlife conservation officials also held their annual Rabbit Hunt for Kids. After several hours in the field, they all joined together at the Shriners’ building in Whitesburg. After eating, each group went to the county to shoot clay pigeons. Before leaving the park, door prizes including shotguns and fishing poles, were handed out. The event, held at the end of December in conjunction with the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife’s Youth Hunt, was free for any child between the ages of 6 and 17 who had signed up. The Chapter will be holding its annual banquet and membership drive on Saturday, March 1, at Letcher County Central High School. Any person interested in supporting local youth is invited to attend. Tickets may be obtained from John B. Adams Store at Isom or by contacting any member of the chapter.
