Planning a family picnic this summer

Northeast Ohio

Howdy, all you good folk. Hope you have had a good 2008. Yeah, I know it’s too early to tell what the year will bring, just hope it’s all good, especially the weather. Today was one of our coldest. We also have three or four inches of snow. East of us the snow belt really got socked , which it usually does.

Gonna have to take a break. Georgia just called to say that she and Richard are on their way over. Someone, me, blabbed that I was baking dried apple pies, one of Richard’s favorites.

Billy Wayne booked the shelter for the Engle, Sergent, Keathley picnic for this year. It will be on Sunday, August 10, from noon till dark, and, as usual will be at the Hilltop Park in Elyria. We will be looking forward to lots of Engles, Sergents, Keathleys, any other kin, and any friends showing up. I will be mentioning this now and then throughout the year. Just wanted to give everyone a chance to plan their vacation early.

Richard and Georgia just left, taking a pie along with them.

Red and I went to Little Edna Church. There was a pretty good crowd and it was a good meeting.

Red talked to his sister, Jean. She said she was doing alright. Her daughter, Terri Short, was with her. I haven’t talked to any of my family except Richard’s and Chester’s families. Jettie said her brother is still sick and her sister, Mabel, is now in Letcher Manor Nursing Home. What a great place for residents of Letcher County! A place for rehab and, of course, a home for those who need constant care as well as a place for many to call home for the rest of their lives.

Hello to Madonna and Bobby Joe Pass. I do hope the new year will be most kind to the both of you and that “Gospel Jubilee” will be even more successful than it already is. I’m still spreading the news everywhere I go and to any and all I talk to or write. Hope it will help some, not that you need it. Hope you and your family are all well. Bobby Joe, will you send me the address of Edna Bentley’s daughter? I have her phone number, but prefer writing letters.

Hi, Edna, hope you had a great Christmas and the new year will be a good one.

Did anyone make a New Year’s resolution? I gave that one up a long time ago. It was no use, I didn’t keep any of them.

I want to wish Jeanie and Phil Adams of Louisville, a happy 50th anniversary on January 11. I would like to be there to help you celebrate. Know that we will be thinking about you and that we love you both. Hope you have a great party and give our love to Christy, Calvin, and Mary.

Oma, I saw your picture in the paper and you look like a person I would really like to know better. I’m sure the inner person is as beautiful as the outer one. Hope you and your husband, Clyde, will have a really, really good year. By the way, have you seen that sis of mine lately? I do hope she is behaving herself. Call me sometime, Anna.

To all who wrote notes and letters in their Christmas cards, I will be getting in touch with you real soon. I do like writing letters but sometimes I do get behind.

I’m still quilting and doing some embroidery, am doing some pillowcases and have several quilts to do.

I haven’t talked to Ron and Johnell in a while. The last time we talked, they said they planned to visit Sarah Belle in Cincinnati after the holidays. Hope they have time to come on up to Lorain. They could visit with three of us. I sure hope to see all the family, including nieces, nephews, and any other kinfolk at the picnic. Families are usually so scattered that it’s hard to get together as often as we would like, and we gotta face the facts, we jist ain’t a’gitten any younger.

Well, it’s getting close to bedtime and Red and I both have doctor appointments in the morning, just for our regular checkups.

Y’all be good now and may only good things come your way. Peace and love to all.
