The Blackey Improvement Committee has already started working toward having the biggest and best Blackey Day Celebration ever on Oct. 15.
Violet Watts is already working on the entertainment and she does such a good job. But that is why this committee works so well. We have good people willing to work hard and make this celebration a success. We are blessed.
We are working on the silent auction that is always fun. If you have something nice you want to donate, get in touch with Jerry and Vonda Caudill or Kathy Back. Anyone would be glad to help.
I am in charge of the food and craft booths this year. We have the capacity for 24 booths. Last year I overbooked because we weren’t sure how many we could handle, but it all worked out. This year we will be booking no more than eight food booths. I have already got two food booths booked.
We have space for 16 craft booths. If you are interested in booking a booth, call me, Doris Adams, 606- 632-3777 or 791-8796, and I will be glad to book one for you. It would be a good idea to book early since we have a deadline this year. Blackey Day is Oct. 15.
Last year we had a wonderful, large crowd all day and all of our vendors did well. So we are planning an even larger crowd this year for when everyone comes home to Blackey and Letcher County.
Soon we will have our sweatshirts, t-shirts and caps for Blackey Day 2011 for sale at Kat’s Barber Shop and other places, I’m sure. October is a cool month, and our sweatshirts felt real good last year.
We have started early to make this year the best Blackey Day ever. We look forward to seeing you there. For information, call Loye Caudill, 633-4049.
