Police look for driver who led them on chase

Police say they are looking for the driver of a truck who led them on a 20-mile chase in the Jeremiah area on Monday night.

Sgt. Brian Damron of the Letcher County Sheriff ‘s Department said he attempted to stop a 1986 Ford Ranger on KY 7 South in Jeremiah around 7:30 p.m. Monday because the small pickup did not have a visible registration plate.

Damron said he turned on his lights and siren, but the driver of the truck continued driving south to Doty Creek.

Kentucky State Police Trooper Randy Surber was in the area patrolling and assisted Damron in the pursuit.

The chase lasted about 31 minutes at speeds of up to 70 miles per hour.

The driver continued to the end of Doty Creek, turned around, went back out of Doty Creek and headed toward Carbon Glow and on to an abandoned strip mine. Damron and Surber continued to try to stop the truck until the road became too rough for their cruisers.

Police are asking anyone with information about the 1986 Ford Ranger or the driver of the vehicle to call the sheriff’s department at 633-2293 or KSP at 606-435- 6069.
