Police say at least two people broke into the Royal Crown Cola Bottling Company building last month and stole industrial copper.
Ronald Bentley, owner of the Ermine building, discovered an open door and broken glass in the office area.
“Apparently after breaking into the building, some unknown subjects ransacked the office area and tried to gain entry into a safe in the office without success,” said Sgt. Barry Engle of the Letcher County Sheriff ’s Department. “After ransacking the office, the unknown individuals proceeded to go into the electrical area of the bottling plant and cut and remove practically all the industrial copper in the building itself.”
Engle said it appears that the perpetrators took several hours to cut and remove the wire without being noticed.
The Sept. 19 burglary and theft are still under investigation by the sheriff ’s department. Anyone with information is asked to call 633-2293.
