Police say ex-Jenkins mayor robbed at home by grandson, new wife

Two Letcher County newlyweds were charged with robbery this week after they allegedly invaded the home of the husband’s grandfather and stole $900 after holding a knife to his throat.

Jordan H. Tackett, 19, and Misty D. Tackett, 26, were arrested by Jenkins City Police officers shortly after they allegedly assaulted and robbed former Jenkins mayor James F. “Chum” Tackett inside the elder Tackett’s Lakeside Drive home.

The couple, wed on September 1, were being held Monday in the Letcher County Jail.

James Tackett, who is the administrator at Golden Years Rest Home in Jenkins, told police officers the assault and robbery took place about 5:58 p.m. on Sunday. He said he rec ognized the couple, who were wearing masks, as being Jordan and Misty Tackett after he recognized their “voices and clothing and physical build.”

James Tackett said Jordan Tackett held the knife to his throat and knocked him to the ground, but that both Jordan and Misty demanded money.

According to the arrest citations, James Tackett’s back and neck were injured during the attack. While the elder Tackett had “visible red marks on his throat,” he refused medical treatment, the citations say.

James Tackett told police he saw the couple leave his home at 451 No. 1 Hill driving a “blue Cadillac.”

The citations indicate the couple were arrested 17 minutes after the incident was reported to E-911 operators.
