Police say man in wheelchair chased girlfriend in fight at ARH

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for today (Wednesday) for a man accused of chasing his girlfriend around the Whitesburg hospital while he was in a wheelchair.

Whitesburg Police Officer Tyrone Fields said Cecil Slone, 28, of Blackey, argued and fought with his girlfriend, Deana Dixon, on June 26 in the hallway of Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital.

Fields said Slone was at the hospital after Slone became injured earlier in the day while arguing with Dixon. Fields said Slone’s foot was run over when he jumped out of a moving vehicle.

Fields wrote in a police citation that marks and bruises were visible on Dixon. He also wrote that Slone had slurred speech and his pupils were dilated.

Fields wrote that Slone “raised his hand as in a manner to assault (Fields) and was very irate.” After being informed that he was being arrested and taken to jail, Fields said Slone refused to put his hands behind his back so that he could be handcuffed.

“(Slone) begged me to hit him so he would press charges (against Fields),” wrote Fields. Fields said Slone later became “hostile” with the staff of the Letcher County Jail.

“He told one to kiss his ass,” wrote Fields.

Slone was charged with fourthdegree assault (domestic violence), disorderly conduct, public intoxication (controlled substance) and menacing.

Slone is being held in the Letcher County Jail. Bond was set at $3,500.

Slone made an initial court appearance on Monday, during which he was ordered to serve six months in jail for contempt of court as a result of statements he made to Special Letcher District Judge Ron Johnson.

Slone’s preliminary hearing was scheduled to be held July 1 at 10:30 a.m.
