Police seek help with thefts

Whitesburg police are looking for information about three separate thefts that occurred in the last month.

Whitesburg Police Chief Philip Slone said a small trailer containing a large amount of tools was taken from the Super 8 motel parking lot on March 17.

Slone said a thief or thieves broke into the Tobacco Store owned by Jerry Nantz on River Road on April 4 and stole several cartons of cigarettes and other tobacco products worth between $2,500 and $3,500. Slone said a small heating and cooling unit was damaged during the forced entry.

“That makes the fifth time in five years I have been broken into,” said Nantz. “We did catch one and sent him to LaGrange.”

Slone said about $5,600 worth of stereo equipment and commercial upholstery equipment was stolen from one unit of Childers’ Self Storage located near the Letcher County Vocational School on April 5. The lock and handle was broken off of the unit during the theft.

Anyone with information about any of these crimes is asked to call the Whitesburg Police Department at 633-2737.
