Police still looking for suspect in robbery attempt near Jenkins

Authorities are still looking for the driver of a small tan car — believed to be a Toyota Corolla — who is wanted in connection with an attempted robbery near Jenkins last week.

Kentucky State Police say the car, which has a “Friends of Coal” registration plate, was used as a getaway car by a man who attempted to rob another man at gunpoint outside a home at Happy Hollow Road, near the Letcher-Pike county line.

Police say a 9-1-1 call came into KSP Post 13 in Hazard about 8 a.m. on Dec. 28 from a person who said the driver of the tan car had tried to rob his grandfather of a laptop computer.

A state police spokesman said the agency’s preliminary investigation indicates the victim of the crime was going to work and had a computer in a bag as he left his home. The perpetrator attempted to take the bag at gunpoint and the grandfather and grandson struggled with him. The suspect was disarmed of the handgun in the altercation and then threatened the victims with a knife and was able to flee the scene before police arrived.

The suspect was described as a white male who stands about fivefeet, seven-inches tall and weighs about 140 pounds. He was wearing a camoufl age jacket and pants with a black mask.

Anyone with any information concerning the case is asked to call state police at 606-435-6069 or 1-800-222- 5555. Callers may remain anonymous.
