Praising the Blackey Center

To the Editor:

I would like to comment on our Blackey Senior Citizens Center. We are all very proud and involved in our center. It is very homey and you feel like you are at home. We play Rook, we play Bingo on Wednesdays; winners receive a prize. We have started an exercise program. Time passes on soon.

On the 17th of December, we had a potluck dinner, all good food that Christmas brings. We had special music (Lee Boy Sexton and Friends). Near 50 attended and ate with us.

We have potluck dinners once a month. The Judge, Jim Ward, ate dinner with us on the 17th.

The center gave gifts to the little kids at Head Start, and Christmas, and they sang songs for us. We enjoyed them.

Our cooks are Vickie Collins and Frances Dixon (you should eat her cornbread).

We have workers who drive the bus, Callie Back, who is Elder I.D. Back’s granddaughter, and Rose Tyree. Callie reminds us of I.D.

We look forward to going every day. We have a cup of coffee, read the paper which someone brings in, so there’s something for everyone.

We plan a shopping trip to Hazard soon. That we do love.

If anyone would like to know more about the Blackey Center, you can call the center at 633- 0906 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
