Pressie Adams celebrates 90th birthday

The 10th annual John Calhoun Adams memorial service will be held at the William Adams Cemetery at Blair Branch beginning at 6 p.m. on June 2. In case of rain, the service will be held at the Blair Branch Church. Everyone is welcome to come out and remember their loved ones who are laid to rest in the cemetery.

Last week I enjoyed a long talk with Claude Caudill of Ohio. He had recently been in with his daughter, Diana, to attend the memorial services at the Raleigh Cemetery on Doty Creek and also the Doty Creek Old Regular Baptist Church memorial. We didn’t get to see them while they were here so it was good to talk with Claude on the phone. He’s always interested in how his kinfolk and friends back in Kentucky are getting along.

This Sunday morning will be the memorial service for the Nancy Back and Smith Cemeteries behind the Dixon Memorial Church. It will start at 9 a.m. on the top of the hill and all are welcome to come out to remember their loved ones who are laid to rest there.

Earl Combs takes care of the upkeep of the cemeteries and has them looking very good.

A large crowd came out to Pressie Adams’s 90th birthday party last Saturday. It was held at the Blair Branch Church and she had a really nice time and enjoyed seeing everyone. They appreciate everyone’s thoughts, cards, gifts, and well wishes during her special day.

Bill and Mary Halcomb of Ohio, have been staying over on Kingscreek with Alma Whitaker for awhile. Bill came over to Blair Branch Church on Saturday evening. We were glad to see him and hope Alma is doing well.

Bill said Harding Ison was having some health problems and is a patient at Letcher Manor for awhile. Hopefully he is feeling better. His sister, Lovell Day, will be able to check on him since she is a patient there also.

Our sympathy goes out to the family of Carolyn Ison Gilliam, who died last week. She had been so sick for the last couple of months and spent a lot of time in and out of the hospital and nursing home. She was well loved by many people throughout the county and also had a lot of relatives who mourn her passing.

Scott and Lisa Adams have moved back to Jeremiah from Florida. They have sold their house in Florida and are getting settled back here at “home” and are temporarily staying with Chris, Liberty, and Noah Campbell on Black Bottom.
