Hello everyone, hope you are all doing well.

Are you enjoying this cool weather? It feels good. I hope it doesn’t mean summer is about gone.

It was good hearing from Juanita Profitt. She said she and Earl were doing pretty well and they are excited about their grandson Ben Miller and his family, who were coming to visit soon. They live far away and don’t get to come often. I can’t remember where they live.

Late happy birthday to my nephew Josh Howard on the 15th and also our sheriff Danny Webb and Tabitha Spencer, my niece who lives in Ohio, and Jeanette Mullins, all on the 16th.

Larry and Linda Hatton have spent a few days at their camper in Tennessee. I miss them, but I’m glad they can go and enjoy themselves and get some rest.

My son Billy and I went to the Pine Mountain Grill for lunch last Wednesday. I think about everyone was there. My sister Kathleen Brock and husband Earnest and her daughter Debbie and husband Ron Lester, and Dan Combs and his pretty wife Penny were there. I always tell them they are one of the prettiest couples in Whitesburg. I also saw Effie Hatton. Don’t get to see her much. Lester Tindle was there and saw an old friend.

At left, Bro. David Miller of Dayton, Ohio, will speak at Whitco Pentecostal Church on Oct. 8-11. He is pictured with the late Bill Howard, the father of Whitesburg correspondent Oma Hatton. She says, “Come to (the church). You will enjoy hearing him.”

Tom Hall was there and guess what. He said he was on his honeymoon, been married seven days then. Also there were Kevin Day and son Larry Kevin and Larry Hatton and Coach Mike Holcomb. He seems so nice! Another man was there and I couldn’t remember his name (senior moment, I guess).

Sandra Hatton was there with some of her friends, who love getting together, and Pam and Henrietta were there and some more were expected to come. Also, Ollie Profitt and her daughter were there.

I enjoyed seeing and talking to all of them. I also heard Kendall Ison had a birthday.

I attended the funeral of Frank Sturgill on Friday. I’m sure he was a well-loved man by the large crowd that was there and he had a lot of family. I didn’t know him, but I knew a lot of his family. It was a beautiful service, great singing and good preaching. My brother Bobby Ray Howard and his son Caleb and Bro. Josh Sturgill and wife Tiffiny and Ami O’Roarke and her sister Tammy Adams were the singers and they really did well.

Our sympathy goes out to all the family. Some of the family were too sick to be there. Helen (Sturgill) Brown is in the hospital and really needs everyone’s prayers.

My sister Kathleen Brock is in Whitesburg Hospital with high blood pressure and other health problems. Pray for her. My sister Louise Shepherd has been in Lexington for some tests. She had a good visit with her son Jerry Shepherd and his wife and also her sister Joann Brown and her husband Don. Their son Chad Brown lives in Georgetown. I’m sure she saw all of them. Her daughter Carol Day took her. She is so good to Louise and so is her husband Randall Day. They came home Saturday.

My son Billy Hatton and wife Sandra were at their lake house this weekend with lots of their family. I know they enjoyed themselves.

They love getting together.

We have a lot of things going on, Mountain Heritage and our Howard family reunion on Pine Mountain at James Pennington’s place. It’s so beautiful there, especially when the leaves are changing. We are expecting a lot of family to be there, Ruby Jean Howard and her sons Mike and Bill and hopefully our cousin Dexter Howard of Indiana, if he is well enough. We are hoping for no rain. The rain won’t stop us!

We are also having Bro. David Miller of Dayton, Ohio, at our church. We are really looking forward to that. He’s been our friend for many years. He was with us a long time ago. Our pastor Bro. John Conn and the Whitco Pentecostal Church invite you to come here.

I put a picture of him in my column with my dad, the late Bill Howard, made a long time ago. I hope you recognize and remember him.

I visit my brother Charles Howard and Howard’s Carpet on Thursday and had coffee with him. He always has his coffee pot going. He makes good coffee or maybe it’s his good company.

Well, I’ve talked about everything so it’s time to stop. May God bless all of you. Try to be in church somewhere if you are able.
