Program to promote family reading

The Harry M. Caudill Memorial Library in Whitesburg has received a Kentucky Humanities Council grant to promote reading to families.

The six-week program will start at 5:30 p.m., Oct. 5, at the Harry Caudill Library. The program for children ages 6 to 10 and their parents encourages families to bond around reading, teaches effective reading techniques, and introduces participants to libraries. The program has been in communities all over Kentucky.

Sessions will include meals, transportation and educational childcare. Books and materials will provided by the library.

Among the activities are storytelling, games, prizes, and arts and crafts. Sessions will be hosted by Jenay Hall and Angie DeBord. Volunteers are welcome to help with childcare.

To participate in this program, call the library at (606) 633-7547. Enrollment is limited to 25 families.
