Quillen attends state conference



Dr. Sam Quillen Jr., a member of the Letcher County School Board, recently attended the 74th annual conference of the Kentucky School Boards Association held in Louisville.

Subject discussed at conference included increasing quality teacher instruction, single-gender classrooms, cyber bullying, legal issues involving high school athletics, student input on school boards, eliminating achievement gaps, and trimming budgets while moving learning forward.

An estimated 1,000 school board members, superintendents, state offi cials, and other education advocates partipicated in the more than 50 sessions and workshops during the conference. The theme of the meeting was Public Education — Kentucky’s Common Wealth.
