Rains helped little here





Despite exended periods of rain last week, Letcher County is still 11.64 inches short of rainfall needed to end the present drought, officials with the National Weather Service in Jackson say.

Letcher County usually has had 41.98 inches of rainfall at this point of the year. As of 7 a.m. on September 13, Letcher County had received only 30.34 inches of rain since November 1, 2006.
