Rape suspect among seven indicted by jury

The Letcher County Grand Jury has named seven people in eight indictments including a Jeremiah man charged with rape.

Michael Nicholas, 24, also known as Beaner, 6097 S. Hwy. 7, is accused of rape, sex abuse and sodomy. The grand jury says he had sexual intercourse with a person less than 12 years old on July 27.

Letcher County Deputy Bert Slone testified in the case.

Others indicted are:

• Robert Caudill — sex abuse and use of a minor in a sexual performance.

Caudill, 53, 6 Castle Drive, Whitesburg, is charged with having sexual contact with a child less than 12 years old between December 2011 and August 2012.

• Fred Dolen — theft.

The grand jury says Dolen, P.O. Box 907, St. Albans, W.Va., took a Chevrolet pickup truck owned by Wesley Doughman in March. The truck is valued at $1,500.

• Preston Halcomb Jr. — theft and being a persistent felony offender.

Halcomb, 33, 1995 Preston Road, Letcher, is charged with taking a 250- foot of chain link fence along the public road on June 11. The fence is owned by the county.

Letcher County Deputy Jarrod Hipps testified in the case.

In a separate indictment, Halcomb is accused of theft of a 1999 Ford Taurus automobile from Billy Sexton, doing business as Sexton’s Used Cards, and valued at more than $500. The grand jury says Halcomb failed to make payments on the car.

• Bennett Polly — receiving stolen property.

Polly, 25, 83 Dry Hill, Payne Gap, is charged with receiving a Playstation 3 and games and XBox 360 games worth more than $500 on July 1, knowing they were stolen.
