Reading pays dividends to girl, 10





 

 

Ten-year-old Kassandra L. Ramirez was presented with a $1,000 check to go toward her college education. The scholarship was presented Oct. 18 by Miranda Miller, an outreach counselor with Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA). Eight children who participated in summer reading programs at Kentucky libraries received scholarships from KHEAA. Kassandra participated in the summer reading program at Harry M. Caudill Memorial Library. Pictured are Kassandra’s parents, Carlos and April Ramirez, Kassandra, Miller and Letcher County Public Library District Director Lina Tidal. Kassandra is a fifth grader at Martha Jane Potter Elementary School.
