Recent LCC graduate dies in Knott County accident

Had 4.0 grade point average; planned to be a nurse

Funeral services were held Sunday for an 18-yearold Letcher County woman who was killed last week in an automobile accident near Carr Creek Lake.

Police say Jenny Christine Watts, of Thornton, was driving a 1999 Pontiac Sunfire around 1:20 p.m. on Dec. 11 when she pulled out in front of a 2013 Honda Fit passenger car traveling north on Highway 15. The collision happened at the intersection of Highway 15 and Highway 160 in the Cody community of Knott County, Kentucky State Police said

Police said Watts, who was wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene the Knott County coroner. Passengers in both cars suffered injuries that were not life threatening and were taken to the Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital for treatment.

Watts was graduated from Letcher County Central High School earlier this year with a 4.0 grade point average. She was to begin studying nursing at Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College in January.

Watts, who enjoyed hunting and fishing, is survived her mother, Melissa Watts of London; her father, Danny Vanover of Sergent and his partner, Lyndsey Whitt of Millstone; her sister, Lindsey Danielle Watts of London; and her fiancé, Dustin Bradshaw of Isom. She was preceded in death by maternal grandparents Ray Adams Jr. and Linda Hatton, and paternal grandparents Harold Vanover and Helen Vanover Hall.

Funeral services were held December 15 at the Neon United Methodist Church. Interment followed at the Adams Family Cemetery on Pine Mountain. Carty Funeral Home in Neon had charge of arrangements.

KSP Trooper Brandon Thomas is in charge of the accident investigation and reconstruction.
