A groundbreaking ceremony for a $7 million county recreation center was held March 12 in Whitesburg. The 42,000-square-foot structure will include a six-lane bowling alley, an arcade, a walking track and an exercise area. Three sideby side basketball courts, a climbing wall and an enclosed batting cage are also planned. Construction could be completed by spring 2011. Among those breaking ground at the ceremony for the recreation center are recreation board members Nick Whitaker, Claude Little, Freddy Johnson, Joan Ward, Kyle Smith, Berma Matthews, Howie Mason and Samuel T.
