Retired school teacher Bonita Sue Pigman dies

Funeral services for Bonita Sue Pigman, 61, were held September 25 at Everidge Funeral Home. Burial was in the Kingdom Come Cemetery at Premium.

A daughter of the late Edward B. and Pauline Sexton Ison, she was the widow of Jimmy “Ferrel” Pigman. She died September 21 at her home at Premium.

Mrs. Pigman attended Morehead State University where she earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in elementary education. She later received her Rank 1 from Union College. She taught English at Whitesburg Middle School, Fleming-Neon Elementary School, Cowan Elementary and Letcher Middle School. After more than 30 years of teaching, she retired from the Letcher County School System but continued to serve as a substitute teacher. She also was a cheerleading coach and academic coach for several years.

Mrs. Pigman was a talented seamstress and quilter. She loved to can and preserve food.

Surviving are three sons, Jimmy Daryn and wife Crystal of Scuddy, Joshua Dwayne and wife Deidra of Morehead, and Jeremy David and wife Sadie of Isom; six grandchildren, Emma, Grant, Makinna, Hayley, Conner, and Hayden Luke; two sisters, Barbara Ison of Premium, and Linda Wright and husband Wayne of Cynthiana; and a special niece, Jessica Frazier.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Anita Riley.
