The Reverend Ulis Sturgill, 84, died December 26 at Pikeville Medical Center.
A son of the late Troy Lee and Alice Rutherford Sturgill, he was a brother of the late Julie Cantrell, Fannie Cantrell, Betty Maggard, Joyce Taylor and Clyde Sturgill. He was also preceded in death by a great-grandson, Jayden Sutherland.
Rev. Sturgill was a retired coal miner, and had worked as an electrician for more than 30 years. He was a lifetime member of the Glady Fork Freewill Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Ramona Mullins Sturgill; four daughters, Amy Sturgill, Jean Robinson and husband Michael (Cotton), and Patsy Hamilton and husband Benji, all of Pound, Va., and Elizabeth Sturgill of Partridge; three sons, Kelly Sturgill and wife Stacy of Wise, Va., and Ricky Sturgill and Stevie Sturgill, both of Pound, Va.; 18 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Nancy Taylor and husband Coy, and Annie Blizzard, all of Pound, Va., and Katie Maggard and husband Wayne of Rutledge, Tenn.; and two brothers, Roger Sturgill and wife Teresa, and Kenneth Sturgill and wife Gail, all of Pound, Va.
Funeral services for Rev. Sturgill were held December 29 at the Glady Fork Freewill Baptist Church. Graveside services were held December 30 at the Bolling Cemetery in Pound, Va.
