Funeral services for Arnold Edward Williams, 77, of Marshall’s Branch, were held January 22 in Jenkins. Burial was in Green Acres Cemetery at Ermine.
A son of the late Marvin and Lula Belle Mullins Williams and a brother of the late Jackie Jude and Sue Beatrich, he was born in Letcher County. He died January 18 at Hazard Appalachian Regional Hospital.
Williams was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of the American Legion. He was a coal mine superintendent for many years and retired from Bethlehem Steel as safety director, and was known for his mine rescue team. He attended Peaks Branch Missionary Alliance Church.
He is survived by his wife, Viola Johnson Williams; a daughter, Rita Broome, Whitesburg; three sons, Melvin Douglas Williams, Banner; Daniel Ray Williams, Robinson Creek; and Edward Dale Williams, Paintsville; a sister, Deloris Fleming, San Diego, Calif.; six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
