Goldie Benedict, 96, of Virgie, died August 17 at the Parkview Nursing and Rehab Center.
A daughter of the late Steve and Susan Bunch Benedict, she was born in Sugar Creek, Ohio. She was a sister of the late Steve Benedict Jr., Elizabeth Kennard, Mary Brummett, Hilda Benedict, Erma Reynolds and Rosa Long.
She was a retired school teacher from the Pike County School System, and had taught at Virgie and G.F. Johnson Elementary schools and seven summers at Pikeville College. She was a member of the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association, and was an honorary Kentucky Colonel.
Mrs. Benedict was a Board Member and Chairman of the Pike County Chapter of American Red Cross, and was named Woman of the Year in 1987 by the Pike County American Association of University Women. She was a member of the Wheelwright Chapter of Eastern Star for 30 years.
Surviving are a brother, Johnny Benedict and wife Marge, of Virgie, and two nieces, Jonna Benedict and son Adam of Harrodsburg, and Lisa Campbell and husband Kevin and daughter and grandson, Olivia Grace and Benjamin, all of Franklin.
Funeral services were held August 21 in Virgie. Burial was in the Benedict family cemetery at Virgie.
