Rites are held for Gyrtle Cook

Funeral services for Gyrtle June “Gyrt” Cook, 88, were held October 31 at Millstone Missionary Baptist Church. Burial was in Green Acres Cemetery in Ermine.

A daughter of the late Bascum and Polly Ann Vance Hall and the widow of James Cook, she was born in Pine Top. She died October 27 at her home in Whitesburg.

Mrs. Cook enjoyed talking about the Bible, reading, family reunions, and cooking. She was a 50-year member of Millstone Missionary Baptist Church.

Surviving are three sons, Jerry “Pooch” Cook and wife Diana of Whitesburg, Jeff Cook and wife Kathy of Versailles, and Terry Cook and fiancée Deanna of Mayking; a daughter, Jennifer Hall and husband William of Whitesburg; a sister, Betty Lou Boynton of Martinsburg, W.Va.; eight grandchildren, Angie Lucas, Shawna Allen, Justin Cook, Bo Cook, Jordan Cook, Kassie Cook, Wesley Hall, and Matthew Hall; fourteen great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Roger “Bo” Cook; a grandson, Jeremy Cook; five brothers, Harold Hall, John Edison Hall, Delmar Hall, James Hall, and Billy Hall; and two sisters, Mary Rose Stephens and Charma Sue McLain.

Everidge Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
