Rites are held for Spangler

Bobby Ray Spangler, 76, died June 9 at his home in Marion, N.C.

The son of John Estill and Cora Bell Slone Spangler, he was born in Wolfe County, and grew up in Hemphill.

Mr. Spangler was a veteran who served in the U.S. Army in the 82nd Airborne Division in the Korean War.

He was the widower of Barbara Spangler and the brother of the late Imogene Spangler, Thelma D. Spangler and Wilma McNeely.

He was later married to Marietta Collins Spangler, who survives him.

Surviving him in addition to his wife are six children, Debra Craft, Michael Spangler, Penny Welchel, Tony Spangler, Dickie Spangler and Jack Spangler, all of North Carolina; seven sisters, Joyce Sturgill of Craft’s Colly, Sereda Faye Collier of Mayking, Loretta Liming of California, Ruthene Potter, Nada Fleming and Nina Brough, all of Pekin, Ind., and Belinda Sexton of Whitesburg; eight stepchildren, 29 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mr. Spangler were held June 12. Burial was in the Alverson Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
