Alma B. Sturgill, 98, died November 13 from the Williamsport Retirement Village in Westminster, Md., after a long illness.
Born in Flat Gap, Va., she was a daughter of the late Henderson and Laura Boggs Bolling and the widow of Burleigh Sturgill. She was also preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.
Mrs. Sturgill taught school in Kentucky and Virginia for more than 15 years. She was a member of the Flat Gap Missionary Baptist Church of Pound, Va.
She moved to Maryland in 1996 to be near her family.
Surviving are a daughter, Patricia Shortt and husband Jerald, Westfir, Ore.; two sons, James Sturgill and wife Fran, Westminster, Md., and Rudy Sturgill and wife Margaret, Fair Play, Md.; 11 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Glade Alcarese, Baltimore, Md., and Flora Adams, Williamsburg, Va.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were held November 17 at the Flat Gap Missionary Baptist Church. Burial was in the Bolling Cemetery in Pound, Va.
