Rites held for Barbara Damron




Former Dorton resident Barbara Ellen Sturgill Damron, 79, of Nicholasville, died July 6 at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington.

Born in Jenkins, she was a daughter of the late Admiral Dewey “Skinny” and Elsie Ellen Cooper Sturgill and the widow of Fred Damron. She was also preceded in death a daughter, Deandrea Lynn; two sisters, Jeanette Reid and Lois Mills; and three brothers, Dewey Sturgill Jr., Jerry Douglas Sturgill, and Martin Tase Sturgill.

Mrs. Damron was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Nicholasville, and a former member of Grace Baptist Church in Shelbiana. She was a retired licensed practical nurse and had worked at Pikeville Methodist Hospital.

Surviving are a daughter, Teresa Ellen Damron Collins of Jenkins; three sons, Stephen Douglas “Steve” Damron of Jenkins, and Kevin Fred Damron and wife Darlene and Keith Robin Damron and wife Donna, all of Nicholasville; nine grandchildren, Kristi, Adam, Brad, Ashley, Aaron, Anthony, Makayla, Alexis and Kennedy; five great-grandchildren, Ally, Kassidy, Preston, Savannah and Easton; three sisters, Lindsey Mae Sexton and Sherry Ann Smith, both of Jenkins, and Elsie Dee Smith of Corinth; a brother, Terry Truman Sturgill of Vine Grove; and a number of nephews and nieces.

Funeral services were held July 10. Burial was in Green Acres Cemetery at Ermine.
