Rites held for Bert Banks



Bert Hopkins Banks, 90, died September 30 at his home on Cowan.

A son of the late Charles D. and Thelma Florence Gibson Banks, he was the widower of Catherine Wyatt Banks, and later married Zelma L. Miles Banks, who survives him.

He was the father of the late James Bert Banks, the stepfather of the late Loretta Damron, and a brother of the late Jack Banks, Kendall Banks and Jeanette Day.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, David Charles Banks and wife Millie of Little Cowan; two daughters, Sylvia K. Banks Sturgill and husband Ercell of Fairborn, Oh., and Jewel Elizabeth Banks Day and husband Bob of Danville; two stepdaughters, Pam Caudill of Cowan and Pat Adams and husband Steve of Isom; a brother, Charles Banks of Hazard; seven grandchildren, four step- grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren and two step-great-greatgrandchildren.

Funeral services were held October 2 at Letcher Funeral Home in Whitesburg. Burial was in the Hop Gibson Cemetery at Little Cowan.
