Rites held for Brack ‘Coal Miner’ Combs

A retired coal miner from Letcher County died in Arkansas earlier this spring.

Brack “Coal Miner” Combs, 88, of Nashville, Arkansas, died May 21. Graveside services were held there on May 24.

Mr. Combs, a member of Temperanceville Baptist Church, was born in Ermine to the late Harrison and Matilda Reynolds Combs.

Surviving are his wife, Millie Holbrook Combs of Nashville, Ark.; two sons, Rodney and wife Kathy Combs, and Mark Combs, all of Nashville, Ark.; a stepson, Steven Morton of Nashville, Ark.; two daughters, Diane Powell and husband David of Nashville, Ark., and Vonda Craft and husband Ned of Indiana. Also surviving are a stepdaughter, Donna Maggard and husband Adrian of Whitesburg; seven grandchildren, and 10 greatgrandchildren.

Mr. Combs was the father of the late Mary Elaine Gibson and James Michael Combs, and the father-inlaw of the late Benjamin Gibson.

He was a brother of the late Cassie Adams, Eunice Adams, Lucille Cox, Smith Combs, Jack Combs, Harry Combs, and Flem Combs.
