David Michael “Shade Tree” Barker, 70, of Middlesboro, formerly of McRoberts, died September 24 at Parkview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Pikeville.
Born in McRoberts to the late David Merrell and Emma Jean Ferguson Barker, he served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Fleming-Neon American Legion.
Mr. Barker was an avid University of Kentucky sports fan.
Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Ruth Ann Clem Barker; three daughters, Chastity Bolling and Larry of Kimper, Lisa Maria Berry and Jackie of Harrogate, Tenn., and Misty Renee Barker and Brian of Jenkins; a son, Michael David Barker of Middlesboro; six grandchildren, Christopher, Paul, Brittany, Chase, Emilee, and Kyra; a great-grandson, Drake Alexander Hall; and two sisters, Merrell Jean Fleming and Chuck of Rutledge, Tenn., and Rita Susan Johnson and Bill of Hazard.
Funeral services for Mr. Barker were held September 26 at the Polly & Craft Funeral Home in Jenkins. Inurnment will be take place at a later date.
