Edith Wright Davis, 97, died March 4 at her residence at Tanbark/Signature Health in Lexington.
Born in Jenkins to the late William Henry Wright and Nannie Lou Wright, she was the widow of Carl Stanton Davis.
She was a sister of the late Naomi Quick, Martha Schatz, Sam Wright, Willard Wright, Mack Wright, Creighton Wright, William “Hoolie” Wright, and infant twin brothers, Paul and John.
Mrs. Davis was an accountant in Washington, D.C. for many years and after retirement moved to Florida. She was an avid golfer, winning tournaments and a club championship many times and making seven holes-inone, the last at age 82.
Surviving are four nieces, Anita Woods and husband Joe of Lexington, Naomi Beane and husband Bob of Bowling Green, Martha Elswick and husband Larry of Pikeville, and Debbie Witt of Alabama; two nephews, Sam Wright of New Albany, Ind., and Nick Wright and wife Suzi of Pikeville; a sister-in-law, Helen Davis of West Virginia; a niecein law, Janet Long; a greatniece, Cathy Young and husband John of Pennsylvania and four other great-nieces, six greatnephews and a number of great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
Funeral services for Mrs. Davis were held March 11 at Carty Funeral Home in Jenkins. Burial was in Payne Gap Cemetery at Jenkins.
