Esquire ‘Squire’ Sparkman Jr., 78, died May 8 at his home at Haymond.
Born in Perry County to the late Esquire and Bethena Reynolds Sparkman, he was preceded in death by 13 brothers and sisters.
He was a retired coal miner, and had served in both the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
He was a member of the Neon Post of the American Legion and Fleming Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Riddle Sparkman; three daughters, Linda Larkey and Denise King, both of Lexington, and Terri Abbott, Las Vegas, Nev.; two sons, Jerry Abbott, Haymond, and Glenn Sparkman, Nashville, Tenn.; eight grandchildren, Arthur, Jeffrey, Derek, Rebekah, Brittany, Katherine, Kayla and Michael; two great-grandchildren, Domitrious and Lyric; and a sister, Alice Fay Sparkman, Atlanta, Ga.
Funeral services were held May 11 at Fleming Baptist Church. Burial was in Rest Haven Cemetery at Jeff.
