Eugene Hampton, 78, died July 17 at his home in the Rat Creek area of Pound, Va.
A son of the late Delmar and Sarah Back Hampton, he was the widower of Clara Hampton, and was later married to Rose Hampton, who also preceded him in death.
He was a brother of the late Colleda Sturgill and Flossie Boggs.
A member of the Hamilton Chapel Church, he had worked as a power line supervisor for Cincinnati Gas & Electric.
Surviving are his wife, Shelia Hampton; five daughters, Wanda Sue Stidham of Roanoke, Va., Diane Messer and husband Bob of Rocky Gap, Va., Amber Lane of Wise, Va., Dolly Long and husband Shannon of Norton, Va., and Tammy Hall and husband Randolph of Pound, Va.; two sons, Ricky Hampton and wife Debbie, and Chris Ross, all of Pound, Va.; 15 grandchildren, Ricky Dean Hampton, Kevin Allen Hampton, Tim Hampton, Bradley Sergeant, Natosha Lothery, Danielle Bolling, Devin Ballou, Summer Hall, Natasha Sturgill, Christian Ross, Chase Ross, Alexis Roberts, Ethan Roberts, Eden Lane and Charlie Long; 24 greatgrandchildren; two sisters, Freeda Adams of Eolia and Lucille Branham and husband David of Fredericksburg, Va.; a brother, Floyd Hampton and wife Lucy of Myrtle Point, Ore.; nephew Bobby Adams; and a friend, Haskell Phillips.
Funeral services were held July 18 in Virginia. Burial was July 19 in Bolling Cemetery in Flat Gap at Pound, Va.
