Kenneth “ Dog” Ray Tackett, 65, of Jackhorn, died July 5 at Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital.
Born in Jackhorn to the late William and Barbara Hall Tackett, he was a brother of the late Brenda Gayle Tackett, June Mullins, Carol Samu, Raymond Tackett, Haroldene Tackett, Garland Tackett, Virgil Tackett, Milford Tackett, Truman Tackett and Carl Tackett.
He was a miner for Scotia Coal Company and was a U.S. Army veteran who served two tours during the Vietnam War. He received a Purple Heart for action in Vietnam and was commander of American Legion Post 104.
Sur viving are two daughters, Melissa Marcum of Neon, and Shelly Tackett Rose and husband Mike of Payne Gap; two grandchildren, Kelsey Ann Marcum of Neon, and Jerrick Preston Rose of Payne Gap; four sisters, Gearldene Harlan of Merodia, Ind., Ruby Potter of Coeburn, Va., Fronie Mullins of JoNancy, and Marlene Hunt of Michigan; five brothers, Roy Tackett of Hemphill, Gary Tackett of Indianapolis, Ind., Clark Tackett of Green Springs, Oh. Earnest Tackett, of London, and Clayton Tackett of Ypsilanti, Mich.
Funeral services were held July 8 at the Fleming Church of God. Burial was in Green Acres Cemetery at Ermine.
