Rites held for Komos Ison

Komos “Coon” Ison, 92, died June 24 at his home.

Born in Kingdom Come Creek, he was a son of the late Kelly and Callie Stallard Ison and the widower of Atha Riter Ison. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Lela Mae Ison; four brothers; and five sisters.

Mr. Ison was a coal miner for 33 years and was a longtime member of the United Mine Workers Association.

Surviving are a son, Lonnie Dale Ison and wife Colene, and two daughters, Linda Gail Cornett and Donna Denise Holbrook and husband David, all of Kingdom Come Creek; five grandchildren, Mickey Ison and wife Melissa of Linefork, Shane Ison and wife Liz and Christie Adams and husband Matt, all of Kingdom Come Creek, Scott Cornett and wife Angela of Lake City, Tenn., and Justin Holbrook; 12 great-grandchildren, Mickey, Mariah, Cody, Destany, Jared, Tori, Emily, Kenzie, Alex, Kellie, Maleah and Sonny; and a sister, Madge Sergent of Jackson.

Funeral services were held June 28 in Whitesburg. Burial was in the Kingdom Come Cemetery.
