Rites held for Melvin Potter



Funeral services for Melvin Carol Potter, 69, of Jackhorn, were held March 9 at the Hemphill Baptist Church. Burial was in the Reuben Potter Cemetery at Jackhorn.

A son of the late John and Rosie Tolliver Potter, he was married to the late Linda Kay Hall Potter. He died March 5 at Pikeville Medical Center.

Mr. Potter was also preceded in death by an infant son, Melvin Meade Potter; a grandson, James King; two brothers, Sam D. Potter and George Henry Potter; and a sister, Reba Mae Greene.

Surviving are four daughters, Kathy Newman and husband Paul of Clintwood, Va., Karen Stines and husband Jerry of Wise, Va., Melanie Collier King and husband Archie of Stanville, and Nikki Potter and husband Donald of Smithfield, Penn.; two sons, Tim Hall and wife Ann of Premium, and John Potter and wife Angie of McRoberts; two sisters, Phyllis Bentley and Betty Jo Bentley, both of Jackhorn; 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Carty Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
