Rites held for Nina Wright Hobbs




Funeral services for Nina Jane Engle Wright Hobbs, 87, of Whitesburg, were held December 16 at Neon First Church of God. Burial was in Reynold’s Cemetery at Seco.

She died December 14 at Letcher Manor Nursing Home.

Born in Letcher County to the late Troy and Mattie Sturgill Engle, she was the widow of Charles Wright, with whom she ran Wright’s Jewelry Store in Neon, and was later married to Charles Hobbs, who also preceded her in death.

She was the mother of the late Linda Gail Muncy, a grandmother of the late James Wesley Muncy, and a sister of the late Troy Engle Jr., Chalmer Engle, and Olga Engle Hampton.

She was a member of the Neon First Church of God, and served as treasurer and a Sunday School teacher for many years.

Surviving are a daughter, Frances Howard and husband Bill of Lexington; three grandsons, Greg Howard and wife Maureen of Cincinnati, Oh., Robert Howard and Chris Howard and wife Tracy, all of Lexington; five greatgrandchildren, Chandler and Elizabeth Howard, and James, Jonathan and Matthew Muncy; two brothers, Charles Engle of Jenkins, and Willie ‘Red’ Engle of Lorain, Oh.; and two sisters, Jean Hunsucker, Eolia, and Mae Sowards, Pound, Va.

Carty Funeral Home of Neon had charge of arrangements.
