Rites held for Noll Davis, Sr.




Noll Davis, Sr., 96, of Dunham, died January 16 at Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital.

Born in Roda, Va., to the late Arnolldus and Julia Ann Collinsworth Davis, he was the widower of Betty Thompkins Davis. He was the father of the late Nilean Davis, Ernest Ray Davis and Noll Davis, and a grandfather of the late Crystal Davis, George Earl Davis and Dewayne Davis.

He was also preceded in death by seven siblings, Eva Turnmyre, Kate Smith, Pearl Cummins, Sarah Mc- Cowan, Jim Davis, Haskell Davis and Walter Davis.

He worked for 42 years as a coal miner for Clinchfi eld Coal Company, Bethlehem Steel and Consol Energy, and retired as an assistant superintendent at Mine 26.

Mr. Davis was a member of the Masonic Order for more than 43 years, and was a member of Jenkins Masonic Lodge #856, the York Rite Jenkins Chapter 164, P.S. Wheeler Council #99, and Pikeville Commandry #45.

He was a member of the People’s Baptist Church and was a honorary Kentucky Colonel.

Surviving are three daughters, Debbie Hamilton and husband Michael of Seco, Helen Profitt and husband Roger of Jenkins, and Julie Johnson and husband J.C. of Cedar Bluffs, Va.; four sons, Chris Davis and Noll Davis, Jr. and wife Debbie, all of Winchester, Homer Haskell Davis, of Somerset, and George E. Davis, of Kentucky; 25 grandchildren, and a number of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and great- great- greatgrandchildren.

Funeral services were held January 19 at People’s Baptist Church in Dunham. Burial was in Powell Valley Memorial Gardens in Big Stone Gap, Va.
