Rites held for Quentin Lewis

Quentin Herman Lewis Sr. died January 23 in Bristol, Tenn. He was 90 years old.

Born in Partridge, he was a son of the late Willie F. and Ada Dixon Lewis, and was a brother of the late Edwin R. Lewis, Irene Reynolds and Willa Mullins.

Lewis was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bristol, Va., for more than 50 years, where he was deacon, taught Sunday School, and was a chairperson of the church board administration.

He was reared at the Junior Order United American Mechanics orphanage in Tiffin, Ohio, and was graduated from the University of Kentucky with a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering. He was an honorary Kentucky Colonel and a member of the Society of Professional Engineers.

He served in the U.S. Army in World War II and the Army Reserve..

Surviving are his wife, Jean Hembree Lewis; a son, Quentin Lewis Jr. of Bristol, Va.; a daughter, Leigh Stewart of Morristown, Tenn.; three granddaughters, Meredith Stewart of Durham, N.C.; Catherine Stewart of Alexandria, Va.; and Jennifer Stewart of Charlestown, S.C.; and a sister, Evaleen “Pat” Towery of Austin, Tex.

Funeral services were held January 26 at the First Baptist Church. Burial was in the Mountain View Cemetery in Bristol.
