Rites held for Stanley Gibson



Stanley Gibson, 73, of McRoberts, died October 31 at the Greg and Noreen Wells Hospice Care Center in Hazard.

Born in Neon, he was a son of the late Monroe and Ora Collins Gibson. He was a brother of the late Kermit McIntosh, Arnold Gibson, McKinley Gibson, Lowell Gibson, Edgar Gibson and Dianne Hall.

One of the founding members of the Committee for a Better McRoberts, he was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of the Church of Jesus of McRoberts, and the United Mine Workers of America. He worked for Beth-Elkhorn Coal Company for many years and retired from there.

He assisted in remodeling the recreation center at McRoberts, and retired as Vice-President of the Committee for a Better McRoberts in 2011 due to health problems.

Surviving are his wife, Wilma Gibson; two daughters, Tina Holland and husband Brett of Neon, and Angie Collins and husband J.R. of Premium; two grandsons, Nick and Cody Holland; a granddaughter, Kimber Collins; a sister, Geraldine Mosgrove, of Detroit, Mich.; and friend, Jim Scott.

Memorial services were held November 6 at the McRoberts Community Center.
