Funeral services for William Edwin ‘Bill’ Gibson, 82, of Jenkins, were held April 29 at Burdine Freewill Baptist Church. Burial was in Davidson Memorial Gardens at Allen.
A son of the late Edwin Joseph and Irene Depew Gibson, he was born at Weeksbury. He died April 27 at Pikeville Medical Center.
He was a brother of the late Sarah Click.
He received a bachelor’s degree in mine engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute, and worked for Bethlehem Energy and the Virginia Iron Coal and Coke Company. After joining the Burdine Freewill Baptist Church in 1982, he became a deacon of the church and was also a member of the Free & Accepted Masons and the Shriners.
Surviving are his wife, Gwenda Wicker Gibson; a son, James Edwin Gibson, Lexington; two daughters, Barbara Gibson Collins and Deborah Irene Anderson and husband Christopher, all of Jenkins; four grandchildren, Corey, Stachia, Christopher Jr. and Allison; and a sister, Alice Martin, Pikeville.
Carty Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
