Rites held for William Goodman




William Charles “Bill” Goodman, 62, of Springboro, Ohio, died May 8.

Born at Cromona, he was a son of the late James Thomas and Geneva Young Goodman. He was an uncle of the late Dana Webb, Manuel Hampton, and Charles Eddie Goodman, and a brother of the late Viola Hampton, Andrew Goodman, James Goodman, Sherman Goodman, and Big William Goodman.

Goodman was a U.S. Marine veteran of the Vietnam War and received a number of medals including the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Land Mine War Force and Demolition in Vietnam, 3D Engineer Command. He was also an expert marksman and was director of Small Arms and Fire Arms, and received the Expert Machine Gunners Medal and recognition for Faithful and Dedicated Service of the Eighth Marine Regiment. He also was a policeman in Neon.

Goodman retired from General Motors Trucks and Bus Plant of Dayton, Ohio, after working 30 years. He was a coach with the Trotwood, Ohio, Boys’ Baseball Club, and an avid fan of the Cincinnati Reds and the University of Kentucky basketball team. Surviving are his wife of 43 years, Patricia Bullion Goodman; a son, William Thomas Goodman; a daughter, Tammy Lannette Buerger; grandchildren, Dylan Thomas, Christian, and Zoe; five brothers, Harold Goodman, Ricky Goodman, Ray Goodman, Gay Goodman, and Dennis Goodman; and four sisters, Wilma Mullins, Betty Webb, Elsie Webb, and Deranda Wyatt.

Funeral services were held June 2 in Trotwood, Ohio. Burial was in the Dayton Ohio National Military Cemetery.
