John Edward Smith, 80, died May 16.
Born in Dunham to Clarence Ernest and Helen Davis Smith, he was the widower of Martha Rose Mann Smith.
He served in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam and Korean Wars, and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and Masonic Houston Lodge #35 in Perry, where he served as Master in 1991. He also served as Master of the 12th Masonic District in 1993.
He was the 12th District Education Director for the Grand Lodge of Georgia and a Shriner of Al Sihah Temple and Perry Lodge #35, where he served as president in 1993.
Surviving are a son, Dwayne Edward Smith and wife Vicki; two nieces, Jill Johnson of Jenkins, and Kathy Ramey of Jacksonville, Fla.; and a nephew, Keith Sunk of Jacksonville.
Burial will be in Andersonville National Cemetery today (Wednesday), at 11 a.m.
