Funeral services for Sammy Guy “Sam” Chester, 60, of Pound, Va., will be held at 7 p.m. today (Wednesday) in Pound. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow at the Newberry Cemetery in Clintwood, Va.
A son of Guy Chester of Wise, Va., and the late Naomi Chester, he died January 15 at Pikeville Medical Center after a long illness.
He was a brother of the late Connie Krebs and an uncle of the late Melissa Krebs.
Mr. Chester was a retired coal miner and member of the United Mine Workers of America and enjoyed talking on the CB radio, where he was known as the “Riverboat Gambler”.
Surviving in addition to his father are his wife, Nora Chester; two sons, Jeremy Chester and wife Chelsea, and John Turner, all of Pound, Va.; six grandchildren, Chase Polly, Greyson Chester, Lee Polly, Jayden Chester, Breanna Turner and Caleb Brickey; a sister, Kathy Chester of Wise, Va.; and a brother, John Chester and wife Shelia of Burlan.
